" CELLPHOLOCATION "

Tim Swischuk, AKA popularlaboratories.com, takes pictures with his thumb, not his index finger.
After a long wait of observing misguided youth with their cellphones talkin’ smack on public transportation, he wound up in a position where he could ditch his “land-line” and buy his own cellphone and have his own what’s-for-dinner or omg conversations on the bus. At first he took his phone with him just-in-case, but then he realized that he had bought a phone with a camera..
In his previous searches for higher reason things would always go slightly sour. This was usually because the equipment needed was well beyond economic plausibility. Until he got what was pretty much a free camera with his phone, with uploads and storage and flickr at little or no cost to him he had finally found a medium that was “within budget.” In other words it was “low-budget.”
These are low budget, low resolution and they are proud to be low, very low.
The popularlaboratories.com picturephone documents a constant stream of lo-fidelity, on-the-fly pictures of everyday encounters that are taken and uploaded immediately to the web

Notes from the Curator
Ed Holmes started the Lazlo Beandip School of Jalopy Photography back in the 70’s and although Tim was just a pup back then, he must’ve filled out the matchbook cover and mailed in his application for an honorary degree. The sheer volume of imagery is awe inspiring and although these are single clips, I am hoping we’ll see some of the fantastic photo mosaics that Tim is famous for.
